January.

i just watched Julie and Julia, and needless to say, I felt compelled to reunite with the blogging world. who knows how often i'll blog- like i said, i'm trying to disconnect a little, after being overly dependent on social media for the last couple years [well, lets face it, since high school].

after a rough start to 2010, including tonsilitis on New Years Day, two friends in and out of the hospital, and loads of stress, things are finally on the up and up. I've decided 2010 is my year. maybe I have said this before about other years, but i definitely have a good feeling about this one.

i've been cooking this year- if you know me, you know how unbelievably frightening this concept is. however, i see each mistake as a lesson learned. for instance, aluminum muffin tins have paper in between them to separate them, not line them. i found this out the hard way when my dough refused to easily peel away from the paper. lesson learned.

i've also decided this is the year to get organized. i've lived in my apartment since august, yet most of my boxes remained unpacked until last weekend. I tore through them- some haven't been opened since college- and i sorted, tossed, and stored. it felt wonderful. tomorrow's project is the closet. if i don't make it out alive, someone make sure Dogzilla gets dinner.

it seems like a spark was lit beneath me this year. part of it comes from extensive conversations with friends, part of it comes from a greater understanding of who i am, and part of it comes from an even greater understanding that this life is mine, and i can do nearly anything i want with it. it's sort of refreshing. i've started diving into art again- music, history, painting. i nearly forgot how much i love art history. i've got a great story about Michelangelo for you, if you're ever interested.

so i guess that's january in a nutshell. i've been working out, cooking, baking, cleaning, organizing, painting, studying, and working. it's been busy. it's been rewarding. it's almost over, which is pretty unbelievable.
